Hazardous Waste

At Oakbank Waste Management Ltd, we work in harmony with our community and the environment to provide smart, cost-effective ways to safely dispose of hazardous waste.

By definition, these materials can be harmful to human health and the environment, and should never be disposed of along with your general domestic, commercial or industrial waste streams.  The materials listed below are commonly been referred to as hazardous waste, even though many can be found in domestic properties.

Hazardous materials include:

  • Vehicle products (antifreeze, fluids, motor oil, oil filters, fuel)
  • Batteries (home and vehicle), electronics ( TV, computers, laptops, cell phones, printers, fax machines, MP3 players, DVD/CD/tape players, and more)
  • Fluorescent light bulbs and compact fluorescent lamps (CFL)
  • Household cleaners (ammonia, drain cleaner, rust remover, tile/shower cleaner and more)
  • Universal materials (include mercury containing items: thermometers, thermostats)
  • Paint products (oil-based paint, latex paint, spray paint, caulk, wood preservative, wood stain)
  • Garden chemicals (pesticides, herbicides, fertilisers, insecticides)
  • Sharps (needles and lancets)

It’s important that these materials are stored and disposed of separately from regular waste streams.

Do not dispose of these items via a domestic sink or storm drain – these outlets could lead to the contamination of groundwater, or potentially flow into larger bodies of water.
